Box Score

Apr. 29, 2009 - The North Central College baseball team saw its chances of making the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament take a hit on Wednesday, as the Cardinals lost a third straight game to Carthage College, 12-2, at Zimmerman Stadium.

North Central (8-20, 6-11 CCIW) still has a chance to make the postseason, but must win each of its last four conference games and have Augustana College lose its last four.

Wednesday's game was deadlocked in a scoreless tie until the fourth inning, when Carthage (26-5, 15-1 CCIW) tallied four runs to pull ahead. The Red Men followed with a five-run outburst in the sixth inning to take a 9-0 lead.

The Cardinals broke up the shutout in the bottom of the sixth, as Adam Dobrez's groundout drove in Nick Robinson. After a three-run Carthage rally in the ninth, North Central got another run on a double by Matt Abraham.

Robinson and Michael Corrigan each went 2 for 3 at the plate for North Central. Jeremiah Torres pitched the first four innings and took the loss (0-2), allowing four runs on six hits while striking out two.

The Cardinals host North Park University (16-19, 6-12) on Saturday in a double header, beginning at 1 p.m.
