Box Score
Apr. 30, 2009 - A seven-run surge in the first four innings was enough to put the North Central College baseball team on the wrong end of the scoreboard for good in Thursday's non-conference game at Benedictine University, as the Cardinals were defeated, 7-3, at the Village of Lisle/Benedictine University Sports Complex.
The Cardinals (8-21) initially took the lead in the first inning, as
Matt Abraham singled to score
Michael Corrigan. Benedictine, however, put up two runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the second to pull ahead, 5-1. A sacrifice fly by
Joe Heller plated a second run for North Central in the third inning, but the Eagles (18-18) scored twice in the fourth to increase their advantage to 7-2.
An RBI single by
Justin Moriarty brought home the final run of the game for the Cardinals in the eighth inning.
Heller and
Nick Robinson each doubled in the game.
Joe Longawa pitched the first two innings and took the loss (0-1), allowing five runs on six hits.
The Cardinals host North Park University in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin double header at Zimmerman Stadium on Saturday. Action is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
