May 1, 2009 - The North Central College women's lacrosse team was upended in the first game of the inaugural Cardinal Shootout on Friday, as Birmingham-Southern College (Ala.) came away with a 17-1 victory at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
The Cardinals (0-10) allowed just two goals in the first five minutes of play, but a late first-half surge by the Panthers (5-6) allowed the visitors to head into the halftime break leading, 11-0.
The first goal of the second half was the lone goal for the hosts, as
Amy Frazzini charged through the Birmingham-Southern defense for her 17th goal of the season.
Frazzini also recorded team highs of five ground balls and three draw controls, while
Elise Manzie totaled 12 saves in goal.
Birmingham-Southern will play the University of Dallas (Tex.) on Saturday at 3 p.m., and the shootout will conclude on Sunday as North Central plays Dallas at noon.
