CHICAGO (May 3, 2009) - The North Central College baseball team fell victim to an onslaught of extra-base hits by North Park University on Sunday, losing by a 14-2 count to the Vikings in the final leg of a three-game series.
North Park (18-20, 8-13 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) sent five home runs over the fence in the game, taking a commanding lead early and never allowing the Cardinals to get back into contention.
The Vikings scored four runs on two homers in the first inning, then tacked on two runs in the third before slamming the door with a seven-run fourth inning. North Central scored both of its runs in the sixth inning on a two-run single by
Steve Hlavac.
Hlavac and
Joe Heller each went 2 for 4 in the game for the Cardinals. Starting pitcher
Mike Kloss dropped to 4-2 with the loss, allowing 11 runs on nine hits in three innings. He struck out four and walked three.
The Cardinals (9-23, 7-13 CCIW) travel to Aurora University on Monday for a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
