Jan. 19, 2010 -- Despite trailing by just five at the half, North Central College was unable to keep pace with Carthage College's red-hot shooting, falling to the 17th-ranked visitors, 72-49, in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women's basketball game at Gregory Arena.

The visiting Lady Reds sunk their first three three-point shots of the game, building an early nine-point advantage just four minutes into the contest. A Jackie Errico three-pointer sparked a Cardinal run to pull within four points with just under 14 minutes remaining. A layup by Diana Jacklin with 4:34 remaining in the opening frame gave the Lady Reds a 10-point cushion before being held without a field goal the remainder of the half as the Cardinals scored six of the next seven points to close out the half trailing, 32-27. Brittany James  sunk a three during the run while Jenna Hoffman tallied the final three points of the half, converting a layup and sinking a free throw after drawing a foul on the play.

In the second half, an Errico offensive rebound turned into two points as the home squad trailed by just eight with 15:38 remaining before the Lady Reds mounted a 13-1 run over the next eight minutes to put the game out of reach.

Errico led the scoring charge for the Cardinals, finishing with 15 points on the night along with six rebounds. Latrice Newson turned in her third double-double of the season, chipping in 14 points, 11 rebounds and three steals while Christine Karl dished out a game-high six assists to go along with her six points.

Jacklin paced the Lady Reds, scoring 14 points as four players ended the night in doubles figures. Dani Ripkey had 11, with nine of those coming from beyond the arc, while Heather Gilmore and Rosie Dorn each had 10 points.

North Central concluded the night shooting 33.3 percent (20-for-60) from the floor while Carthage finished the game shooting 46.8 percent (29-for-62), including a red-hot 54.8 percent (17-for-31) in the second half. The Lady Reds were equally as deadly from beyond the arc, shooting 56.3 percent (nine-for-16) for the game, including a blistering 75 percent (six-for-eight) in the opening stanza.

With the loss, North Central falls to 3-13 and 0-5 in CCIW action while Carthage, ranked 19th in the most recent D3Hoops.com poll and 17th in the USA Today Coaches Poll, improves to 13-3 and 3-2 in conference play. The Cardinals resume their homestand on Saturday, taking on Augustana College at 5 p.m. inside Gregory Arena.
