Swimming Splits Dual with Illinois Tech

Nov. 5, 2010-- Loreli Patschke won four events, helping North Central College earn a split with Illinois Institute of Technology in a non-conference swimming dual meet on Friday at the Merner Field House Pool. The Cardinal women edged the Scarlet Hawks 44-40 while the short-staffed North Central men's squad fell 76-8.

On the women's side, North Central claimed five event victories, including both relays, earning its first victory of the season. Kelsey Tumpane, Katie Stratton, Loreli Patschke and Madeline Moton opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, touching the wall in 1:58.28 while Tumpane, Kathleen Fultz, Patschke and Stratton iced the meet by scoring the afternoon's final seven points with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing in 1:47.07.

Patschke collected a pair of individual victories, winning the 50-yard freestyle (26.22) and 100-yard freestyle (59.57) races while Stratton won the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking a 1:10.93. Adding a trio of runner-up finishes was Tumpane, placing second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.72), 200-yard individual medley (2:24.25) and 100-yard butterfly (1:04.43) races.

Highlighting the men's efforts was a two-three finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Sean Broucek finished runner-up in 1:02.78 while Robb Showalter was third in 1:03.09. The Cardinals additionally collected third place finishes from Jake Nurczyk in the 50-yard freestyle (24.37) and the 100-yard butterfly (58.87).

The Cardinals take next weekend off before returning to the pool on Friday, Nov. 19 for the two-day Phoenix Fall Classic hosted by the University of Chicago.
