Dec. 31, 2010-- Playing in front of the home crowd for the first time in over a month, the North Central College women's basketball team closed out its non-conference slate with a 67-64 victory over Dominican University on Friday afternoon inside Gregory Arena, snapping the Stars' 10-game win streak.
The Cardinals (4-7) opened the game on an 11-2 run, building a nine-point lead with 15:10 remaining in the opening half of play. North Central never trailed in the first half, enjoying a 25-22 advantage at the halftime intermission.
The Stars (10-2) tied the contest early in the second 20 minutes of play and claimed their first lead of the day at 29-27 with 16:54 remaining, sparking a five minute span where neither squad led by more than three points while the game was tied on five occasions.
With 11:34 left and the score deadlocked at 41-41, the homestanding Cardinals took control, mounting an 11-2 offensive to build a nine-point buffer with just under seven minutes to go.
Terra Musgrove kickstarted the run with a layup while
Jackie Errico accounted for five of the 11 North Central points during the scoring spurt.
The Cardinal lead swelled to as many as 10 points before the Stars mounted a late run, cutting a 10-point lead with 41 ticks remaining to just three after a three-pointer as time expired.
Errico ended the day with a team-high 20 points and eight rebounds as three Cardinals ended the game in double figures.
Jenny Swanson added 15 points along with four assists while Karl chipped in 12.
Sarah Budz paced Dominican, finishing with a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Kayla Blom finished with 15 points and a game-high five assists while Ashley Oliver came off the bench and added 11.
North Central returns to the hardwood on Tuesday, traveling downstate to Bloomington, Ill. where the team will open up College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play against Illinois Wesleyan University with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
