DUBUQUE, Iowa (Dec. 4, 2010)-- A Jenny Swanson three-pointer with nine seconds left lifted the North Central College women's basketball team to the 49-47 victory over the University of Dubuque on Saturday in a non-conference showdown at the Stoltz Sports Center.

Swanson drained the three with nine seconds left after Emily Collins grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed three by Christine Karl with 13 ticks left and the visiting Cardinals (3-2) trailing 47-46. Dubuque's Aimee Reyzer launched a trey on the ensuing possession with one second left with Helen Muleya collecting the rebound to secure the Cardinals' first road win of the young season.

North Central went into the halftime break with the 25-19 edge after an opening 20-minutes that featured five lead changes and three ties. The Spartans held an 11-10 edge with 8:29 remaining before the Cardinals mounted an 8-0 run to seize the lead. Muleya started the run with a layup before getting buckets from Jackie Errico and Karl with Errico capping off the spurt with a pair of free throws, extending the Cardinal edge to seven with just under six minutes left.

A four-point Cardinal lead was quickly extended to a game-high 11-point buffer with 10:26 remaining in the second half with Karl canning a jumper and a three-pointer on consecutive possessions to spark the run. The Spartans would mount an 18-4 run over the next eight minutes with a Reyzer layup with 3:48 remaining giving the home side it's first lead since midway through the first half. A pair of free throws courtesy of Shana Kester gave the Spartans a three-point buffer with 2:27 remaining before being held scoreless the rest of the way.

A Karl jumper cut the deficit to one with 67 seconds remaining before Swanson's three secured the win 58 seconds later.

Two Cardinals ended the afternoon in double figures with Errico leading the way with 13 points. Karl added 11 while Swanson had six points, shooting two-for-four from beyond the arc. Collins led the team on the glass with seven rebounds, including three on the offensive end.

Reyzer paced Dubuque, finishing with a game-high 14 points and 10 rebounds.

North Central continues its six-game road trip on Friday, taking on the University of Redlands (Calif.) at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific Time).
