Women's Basketball Falls to Lady Reds, 85-67

KENOSHA, Wis. (Feb. 13, 2010)-- Despite having its best shooting night of the season, North Central College was unable to keep pace with the 11th-ranked Carthage College Lady Reds, falling 85-67 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women's basketball game at Tarble Arena.

The Cardinals finished the game shooting a season-high 51.1 percent (23-for-45) but were unable to match the hosts who shot at a 52.6 percent (30-for-57) clip.

Carthage raced to the early 3-0 lead before the Cardinals rattled off the next 10 points, building its largest lead of the game at seven points just four minutes into the contest. Back-to-back three-pointers from Dani Ripkey and Allison Groessl pulled the host Lady Reds back into the game, trailing by just one with 14:10 remaining. Tied at 23, Carthage closed out the opening half on a 12-4 run, taking a 35-27 lead into the break.

The Lady Reds held at least a six-point buffer the entire second half, settling on a final 18-point margin.

Latrice Newson led the Cardinals, scoring a game-high 23 points along nine rebounds and five assists. Christine Karl registered in double figures for the seventh straight game, chipping in 17 points while Jackie Errico added 11.

Five Lady Reds finished in double figures, led by Rosie Dorn's 17-point effort. Heather Gilmore tallied 16 along with a game-high eight assists.

With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 5-18 overall and 2-10 in CCIW action while the Lady Reds improve to 20-3 and 10-2 in conference. North Central returns to the hardwood on Tuesday, Feb. 16, hosting Elmhurst College at 7 p.m. in the team's final home game of the season.
