ELMHURST, Ill. (Apr. 11, 2010) - Continuing to get solid offensive production from its entire lineup, the North Central College baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Elmhurst College on Saturday, defeating the Bluejays, 10-4, at Butterfield Park.
The Cardinals wasted no time putting their stamp on the contest, scoring all 10 of their runs in the first four innings and improving to 7-1 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play and 18-3 overall.
North Central loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning, taking advantage of two walks and a hit batter, before
Michael Corrigan opened the scoring by sending a two-run single through the right side.
Steve Hlavac added an RBI groundout before the inning was over.
The Cardinals doubled their lead in the second, once again loading the bases with no outs after two singles and a walk.
Dan Scott singled to drive in a run and
Matt Abraham and Corrigan followed with sacrifice flies.
North Central added four more runs in the fourth, as
Nick Robinson scored on an error, Hlavac came through with a sacrifice fly, and
Joe Turek and
Andrew Wulbecker each drove in runs with doubles.
Robinson and Abraham each went 2 for 3 in the game, as Robinson added three walks and three runs scored.
Nate Arenson kept Elmhurst scoreless for the first four innings, improving to 5-0 with the win. He allowed two runs on nine hits in six innings of work, striking out three and walking two.
The Cardinals host Millikin University (4-18, 1-7 CCIW) on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
