After waiting more than a year for its first victory, the North Central College women's lacrosse team needed less than 48 hours to post another, defeating the Indiana Institute of Technology, 16-10, at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Sunday.

The Cardinals (2-6) pulled ahead for good with a stretch of seven unanswered goals midway through the first half, and staved off the visitors' comeback attempts with stellar defense in the second period.

After trading goals back and forth twice to start the game, the Warriors (7-4) took their first lead on a goal by Erin Skodi with 20:13 on the first-half clock. Nearly five minutes later, Jacqui Morgan knotted the score to begin what would be a game-defining rally. Nora Wessels put the Cardinals in front before Morgan scored again, and Jessica Seggman found the net for two straight scores before Danielle Fiala and Amy Frazzini# followed suit, giving the hosts a 9-3 edge with 11:15 to play before halftime.

Indiana Tech scored twice to stop the bleeding, but Frazzini countered with a free-position score and Morgan scored twice, including a goal with just four seconds remaining, to send the Cardinals into the break with a 12-5 advantage.

The Warriors scored the first two goals of the second period, which were countered by scores from Frazzini and Caroline Gully. Indiana Tech again strung together two goals before Fiala and Morgan found the net yet again. Indiana Tech made a spirited effort to narrow the gap further down the stretch, firing 20 total shots in the second half, but was held scoreless for the final 7:36 as Elise Manzie made nine of her 15 saves after halftime.

Morgan led all scorers with five goals, while Frazzini scored four, raising her team-leading season total to 23, and Fiala finished with three. Gully notched a game-high three assists.

The Cardinals will play their fifth consecutive home game on Wednesday, hosting Carthage College (2-9) at 7 p.m.
