Apr. 14, 2010 - The North Central College women's lacrosse team was denied in its attempt to extend its winning streak to a third game on Wednesday, as Carthage College left Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium with a 16-10 victory.
The Cardinals trailed throughout the evening, as Carthage scored the game's first four goals and six of the first seven. Trailing, 6-1, North Central narrowed the gap to just two goals with 8:32 left in the first half, as
Amy Frazzini,
Jacqui Morgan and
Natalie Vivacqua found the net in succession.
The Lady Reds (3-9), however, scored three of the final four goals in the period, including a score with just 26 seconds left before halftime, to take a 9-5 lead into the break.
North Central's
Danielle Fiala scored the opening goal of the second half, but Carthage answered just 10 seconds later. A four-goal surge midway through the second period gave the visitors their largest lead at 15-7. The Cardinals kept the pressure on late despite the deficit, and
Jessica Morgan scored a trio of goals before the final horn sounded.
Morgan's three goals were a team high for North Central (2-7), while Frazzini and Morgan scored twice. Frazzini also finished with two assists and seven ground balls, while Fiala added seven draw controls and
Elise Manzie made seven saves in goal.
The Cardinals play the first of five straight road games on Saturday at Adrian College (Mich.) Play is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Eastern time.
