The North Central College women's lacrosse team opened a five-game home stand on Friday by hosting the University of Puget Sound (Wash.), hanging tough early before succumbing to the Loggers, 20-10, at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

Puget Sound (7-2) scored twice in the first 45 seconds of play to establish control, though the Cardinals' Jessica Morgan found the net shortly thereafter to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Loggers countered with another goal at the 26:34 mark, and more than 12 minutes elapsed before the next goal was scored, again by UPS, to give the visitors a 4-1 edge.

Jessica Seggman and Jacqui Morgan each followed with goals for North Central, which bookended a score by Puget Sound's Julia Schulman and left the count at 5-3. The Loggers took their largest lead of the first half at 9-5 with under a minute remaining, but Amy Frazzini lit up the scoreboard with just eight seconds on the clock to cut the lead to 9-6 at halftime.

Leading, 13-9, with under 10 minutes remaining in the contest, UPS put the game away with five unanswered goals, three of which came from Schulman.

Jacqueline Morgan, Frazzini and Natalie Vivacqua led North Central in scoring with two goals each. Elise Manzie made 11 saves in goal.

Schulman finsihed with six goals and Katie Schlesinger scored five for the Loggers, while goalkeeper Ana Calciano made 13 saves.

The Cardinals host Trine University (Ind.) on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
