A second straight come-from-behind victory was not to be for the North Central College women's lacrosse team on Friday, as the Cardinals closed the 2010 season with a 14-10 loss to Fontbonne University at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

The Cardinals got off to an ideal start, as Jacqui Morgan and Danielle Fiala both scored in the first 47 seconds of play. The Griffins were able to tie the score after another 10 minutes had elapsed, though North Central's Amy Frazzini scored with 19:29 remaining in the first half to give the lead back to the hosts once again.

Another Fontbonne goal tied the game once again with 18:58 left in the opening period, but Morgan and Frazzini scored in succession to give the Cardinals their biggest lead at 5-3. North Central owned a 6-4 advantage before Fontbonne (7-5) scored the final three goals of the half, including a score with just 44 seconds left, to take their first lead of the contest at 7-6.

The Griffins' Mary Alice Pierce scored the first goal of the second period with 28:14 on the clock, and Frazzini responded with her fourth goal 25 seconds later. Fontbonne, however, scored the next four goals and kept the Cardinals off the board until 11:39 remained, when Jessica Morgan scored twice in a 29-second span to leave the hosts with a 12-9 deficit.

The Fontbonne defense stiffened down the stretch, however, as the Griffins' Emily Spalding scored twice down the stretch and North Central was kept out of the net until Jessica Morgan's goal with just 30 seconds to play.

Caroline Gully finished the game with six ground-ball pickups, while Nataile Vivacqua totaled seven draw controls. Elise Manzie saved six shots on goal.

North Central finishes its second season of varsity competition with an overall record of 4-11.
