CCIW Release
May 11, 2010 - North Central College infielder
NIck Robinson has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Baseball Player of the Week for May 3-9.
Robinson earned the honor, the final one to be awarded by the CCIW this season, on the strength of his performance in the Cardinals' five games last week. He batted .565 (13 of 23) for the week, recording multiple hits in each game, as North Central won three games, including two CCIW contests which clinched the conference title for the Cardinals.
Robinson went 2 for 5 with a run batted in and two runs scored in an 11-5 victory at the University of Chicago on Tuesday, then batted 4 for 6 with an RBI in an 8-7 loss to Rockford College on Wednesday.
He went 2 for 3 in the first game of Saturday's double header against Illinois Wesleyan University, hitting two doubles, drawing two walks, stealing a base and driving in a run in a 4-1 win, then batted 3 for 5 in a 17-5 loss in the nightcap. Robinson closed the week with a 2 for 4 performance in the Cardinals 4-0 victory at IWU, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
Robinson has recorded 73 hits this season, tying him with three-time All-American and 1988 Division III Player of the Year Ken Ritter '88 for the school single-season record, and ranks second only to Ritter in runs scored (54) in a single season. Robinson has cracked the North Central career top 10 in hits, runs, total bases, at bats and triples.
Cardinal catcher
Michael Corrigan has been named the conference's Player of the Week twice this season, while
Nate Arenson was named the CCIW's Pitcher of the Week last week.
North Central (31-7) hosts the CCIW Tournament at Zimmerman Stadium this weekend, opening play against Illinois Wesleyan at 3 p.m. Thursday. The complete tournament schedule and other information can be found at
