2010 All-CCIW Baseball Teams

May 25, 2010 -
The North Central College baseball team has been rewarded for its remarkable performance this season by the head coaches of its College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin competitors, as 10 Cardinals appear on the 2010 CCIW All-Conference Teams.

The group of honorees is easily the largest North Central has ever had. The previous high for a single season was seven All-Conference selections, achieved by the 1984 and 1996 teams.

Four Cardinals were selected to the All-CCIW First Team, including CCIW Player of the Year Award winner Michael Corrigan. The junior catcher batted .406 this season with 14 doubles, seven home runs, and a conference-high 67 runs batted in. In 21 conference games, Corrigan batted .388, hitting five home runs and posting a .992 fielding percentage while establishing a new CCIW record with 42 RBI against conference competition.

Corrigan is the seventh North Central player to receive the CCIW's highest award, and is the first Cardinal to be so honored since outfielder Tim McDonough in 1995. Corrigan is the only North Central catcher ever to receive Player of the Year honors.

Joining Corrigan on the All-CCIW First Team are infielder Nick Robinson, designated hitter Joe Turek and pitcher Nate Arenson.  Robinson batted .427 with 56 runs scored and set new North Central records for hits (76) and at-bats (178) this season, while Turek batted .337 with 13 doubles, a team-high eight home runs, and 52 RBI. Arenson posted an overall record of 7-2 with a 4.39 earned-run average on the pitcher's mound, going 4-1 with a 3.63 ERA and two complete games in conference play.

The Cardinals also had six selections to the All-CCIW Second Team, including outfielder Dan Scott, infielders Peter Romanello and Andrew Wulbecker, and pitchers TJ Hecimovich, Mike Kloss and Kevin Krajewski.

Scott batted .266 with 53 runs and a team-best 16 stolen bases while posting a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000 in 130 chances in center field. Romanello hit .341 with 41 runs scored and a team-high 31 walks. Wulbecker batted .369 with 14 doubles, three home runs, 43 RBI and a .988 fielding percentage in 340 chances.

Kloss went 7-2 with a 5.03 ERA and two complete games in 11 starts, turning in a perfect 5-0 record against conference opponents. Each of Hecimovich's six starts this season came against CCIW opposition, during which he went 3-0 with a 4.12 ERA. Krajewski, in 19 relief-pitching appearances, went 2-2 with four saves and a 1.40 ERA and yielded just one earned run in conference play.

The Cardinals finished the 2010 season with an overall record of 31-11, tying for the second-highest win total in school history, and went 17-4 to win the program's first CCIW Championship since 1998. North Central competed in the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships, also for the first time since 1998.
