CCIW Release

May 4, 2010 -
North Central College baseball player Nate Arenson has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Pitcher of the Week for Apr. 26-May 2.

Arenson earned the distinction on the strength of his performance in two pitching appearances during the past week. He posted a 1.08 earned-run average in 16 2/3 innings in two starts, paving the way for a pair of North Central victories.

In Monday's 7-2 win over Wheaton, he pitched all nine innings and allowed two unearned runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking two. Arenson needed just 109 pitches to complete the win against the Thunder, as only seven Wheaton runners made it into scoring position.

In Sunday's 4-3 win over Augustana, Arenson pitched the first 7 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking none. He departed in the eighth inning with the lead, as he has in every game in which he has appeared this season.

Arenson is the current CCIW leader in earned-run average (2.21) and shares the conference lead in victories (7). He is 4-0 with a 1.93 ERA in conference play.

Arenson is the first North Central player to be honored as the CCIW's Pitcher of the Week this season. Catcher Michael Corrigan has been named the conference's Player of the Week twice.

North Central (28-5, 15-3 CCIW), which is within one game of clinching its first CCIW Championship since 1998, travels to the University of Chicago for a non-conference game on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The Cardinals close out conference play with a three-game series against Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday and Sunday.
