CCIW Press Release
Oct. 24, 2011 - North Central College tight end
Alex Haan has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Offensive Football Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 5.
Haan received the award for his efforts in the Cardinals' 33-7 victory over Wheaton College on Saturday. Making his first collegiate start, the senior collected three passes for a career-high 99 yards and two touchdowns. One of the scores came on a 86-yard reception from
Jordan Tassio, which is the third-longest passing play in school history. Haan has caught 11 passes for 185 yards and five scores this season.
He is the second North Central player to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors from the CCIW, as
Mike Boettcher was so honored following the Cardinals' 61-14 win at Millikin University on Oct. 15.
North Central has also won the CCIW's Special Teams Player of the Week Award five times, as punter
Tyler Rasche and returner
Caleb Bednarz have both won twice and kicker
Nick Dace has been honored once. Defensive ends
Willie Hayes and
Valente Garza have each been named Defensive Player of the Week in 2011, giving the Cardinals a total of nine Player of the Week selections this season.
North Central closes out the regular season on Saturday, hosting North Park University as the College celebrates Senior Day, Homecoming and North Central's 150th anniversary. Kickoff at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on Naperville Community Television, Channel 17 and
nctv17.com.
