Cardinals Chop Down Foresters, 66-55

Dec. 6, 2011-- Taking an early lead and never relenting, the North Central College women's basketball team rolled to its third straight victory on Tuesday night, downing Lake Forest College, 66-55, inside Gregory Arena.

The visiting Foresters (4-3) scored the game's first bucket and held an early 4-3 edge with 18:18 remaining in the opening half before the Cardinals (5-2) took control, mounting a 10-2 run to grab the lead, an advantage they would never relinquish. North Central led by just four points with just under three minutes remaining in the first half before scoring the final six points of the half, enjoying a 31-21 edge at the break after Jenny Swanson sunk a pair of free throws with one second left.

Lake Forest whittled the deficit to just two points with 15:43 remaining before the Cardinals responded with a 12-4 spurt over the next five minutes to increase the buffer to 47-37. North Central maintained at least an eight point buffer the rest of the way en route to the 11-point win.

Swanson canned four three-pointers on the night, leading the team with 14 points while Emily Murphy added 13 points, going six-for-12 from the floor. Helen Muleya chipped in nine points and a game-high six assists while Emily Collins grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Alex Messacar finished with a double-double for the Foresters, leading the team with 13 points and 11 boards while Liz Radtke added 11 points.

The Cardinals resume their homestand on Friday, hosting the University of Dubuque (Iowa) with tip off slated for 6 p.m.
