Feb. 12, 2011-- The North Central College women's basketball team scorched the nets on Saturday night inside Gregory Arena, shooting a season-best 62 percent from the field to dismantle College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin rival Carthage College, 89-75.
The Cardinals torched the nets in the opening 20 minutes of play, hitting 73.1 percent (19-of-26) of their shots, including 66.7 percent (six-for-nine) from three point range.
A pair of three-pointers gave the homestanding Cardinals (8-14, 4-7 CCIW) the early 8-2 lead before the Lady Reds (16-7, 7-5 CCIW) responded, scoring the next six points to tie the contest with 16:42 remaining. North Central would mount a 13-3 run late in the opening half, turning a six-point advantage into a 16-point bulge before going into the half with a 47-28 lead.
The Cardinals led by double-digits the entire second half. The closest Carthage came was 11-points with 13:01 remaining before North Central scored the next eight points to balloon the lead to 19 en route to the 14-point victory.
North Central closed out the game shooting 62 percent (31-for-50) from the field and 60 percent (12-for-20) from three-point range while tying a CCIW-record after sinking all 15 free throw attempts.
Jackie Errico paced all scorers with 29 points, tying a career-high, shooting eight-for-10 from the field while sinking all seven free throws. Errico additionally canned six three-pointers and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Christine Karl and Jenny Swanson each chipped in 17 points, Karl tallied four assists and three steals while Swanson hit four three-pointers on the night. Helen Muleya was the fourth Cardinal in double figures, scoring 14 points and dishing out a team-high five assists.
Diana Jacklin led the Lady Reds with 20 points, Cailee Corcoran added 17 and Heather Gilmore chipped in 11. Corcoran led Carthage on the glass with 12 rebounds.
The Cardinals 89 points was the team's highest output since the 2006 season when the team piled on 91 in a 91-78 victory on Jan. 20 against Augustana College.
North Central returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 15, taking on Elmhurst College at 7:30 p.m. in the team's final road game of the season.
