BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Feb. 5, 2011)-- The North Central College swimming team's competed in its final tune-up before the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships, facing Illinois Wesleyan University and Wheaton College in a double dual at the Fort Natatorium.
The Cardinal women fell 120-15 to the host Titans and 108-11 to the Thunder while the men suffered a 104-7 setback to IWU and lost 106-9 to Wheaton.
Kelsey Tumpane highlighted the Cardinals' efforts on the women's side with a trio of top five finishes. Tumpane placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.06) and fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:25.22) while swimming to a fifth place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:44.28).
Loreli Patschke cruised to a third place showing in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 2:19.81 while placing fifth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.87) and sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.04).
For the men,
Jake Nurczyk led the team with a fourth place effort in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 1:00.22 while also recording a seventh place showing in the 200-yard IM (2:22.29).
Sean Broucek placed sixth in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.47) and 200-yard backstroke (2:15.36) while placing seventh in the 100-yard free (55.96).
North Central takes the week off before making the short trek to Wheaton College for the three-day CCIW Championships beginning on Thursday, February 17.
