TACOMA, Wash. (Mar. 24, 2011) - The North Central College women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome an early deficit in the final game of its Spring Break trip on Thursday, losing, 17-11, at the University of Puget Sound.
The Cardinals were held scoreless for the first 7:30 as Puget Sound (4-4) built a 3-0 lead. A goal by Jacqui Morgan got North Central on the board, and two straight scores by Danielle Fiala late in the first half left the visitors trailing by just a 6-5 count.
The Loggers scored the final three goals of the half, one of which came with just nine seconds left on the clock, to head into halftime with a 9-5 advantage. A series of three straight North Central goals early in the second half left the Cardinals with just a 10-8 deficit, but a pair of shorthanded goals by Puget Sound's Julia Schulman helped the hosts stay clear for good.
Morgan led the Cardinals (2-2) with four goals, while Fiala finished with three and Natalie Vivacqua scored two. Goalkeeper Sarah Hon made a season-high 14 saves.
North Central hosts Adrian College in a Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference encounter on Sunday. Play is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
