ANGOLA, Ind. (Apr. 11, 2011) - The North Central College women's lacrosse team snapped out of a two-game losing skid and matched its win total from the 2010 season on Sunday, routing the College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio), 18-7, in a neutral-site game at Trine University.
With the win, the Cardinals (4-5, 2-3 MWLC) remain in contention for a bid to the inaugural Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Tournament with two conference games left in the regular season.
Amy Frazzini put the Cardinals in front very early in the contest, scoring after just 43 seconds had elapsed. North Central doubled its lead before Mount St. Joseph (1-11, 0-5 MWLC) scored twice to level the count at 2-2.
With 20:25 left in the first half, Danielle Fiala scored to begin a 5-0 Cardinal run yielded a comfortable lead. The Lions battled back and closed the gap to 9-5 in the final minutes of the first half, but Fiala scored with 2:26 to play and Natalie Vivacqua tacked on a goal with just four seconds on the clock to send the Cardinals into halftime ahead, 11-5.
North Central scored the first four goals of the second half to put the game out of reach and held the Lions scoreless for the final 14:54 of the period.
Fiala led all scorers with five goals, while Caroline Gully scored four times and Vivacqua and Jacqui Morgan each recorded three goals. Frazzini finished with a game-high three assists and Sarah Hon saved six shots on goal.
North Central hosts MWLC foe Concordia University (Wis.) on Wednesday at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, beginning at 7 p.m.
