ADRIAN, Mich. (Apr. 29, 2011) - The North Central College women's lacrosse team closed the most successful season in its young history on Friday, bowing out of the inaugural Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Tournament in the semifinal round at Performance Stadium.
Seeded fourth in the event, the Cardinals (7-7) were dealt a 22-4 setback by the top-seed tournament hosts from Adrian College (16-4). The Bulldogs advance to Saturday's championship game against Carthage College, a 15-5 winner over Trine University in Friday's other semifinal.
The Bulldogs scored just 32 seconds after play began, though North Central's Jacqui Morgan responded by tying the score just over two minutes later. After two more Adrian goals, Caroline Gully found the back of the net to leave the Cardinals with just a 3-2 deficit with 22:37 left in the first half. Adrian, however, scored eight times over the next 11 minutes to seize control of the contest and take an 11-2 advantage.
Danielle Fiala scored with 10:13 left before the half to halt the Bulldogs' scoring run, but the hosts added three more scores before the break to head into halftime ahead, 14-3. North Central's lone goal of the second period came on a free-position shot by Jessica Morgan with 5:52 on the clock.
The Cardinals' victory total is the highest single-season mark in the program's three-year history.
