ANGOLA, Ind. (Apr. 9, 2011) -
A late first-half scoring run helped the North Central College women's lacrosse team take the lead in its Saturday Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference game at Trine University, but the Thunder bounced back to pull ahead and held on for a 16-15 victory.

The Cardinals (3-5, 1-3 MWLC) trailed, 7-4, in the first half before Caroline Gully's goal with 8:04 to play ignited a 4-0 run to close the period. Jacqui Morgan capped off the run by scoring with 1:17 to play and sent the visitors into the break with a 8-7 lead.

Trine's Kayla Grieser scored three goals in a 4-1 run at the start of the second half as the hosts regained the lead, 11-9. The Cardinals came within a single goal on three occasions before three straight goals gave the Thunder a 16-12 advantage with 6:11 to play.

North Central scored three times in a 61-second stretch, two of which came from Mallory Bahr, to narrow the gap to a single score with 4:04 to play. The Cardinals, however, were unable to get another shot off down the stretch.

Gully scored four times to pace North Central, while Bahr and Amy Frazzini each scored three times. Sarah Hon saved 12 shots on goal.

Trine (5-3, 3-1 MWLC) was led in scoring by Grieser and Emily Shreeve, each of whom netted five goals.

The Cardinals take to the field at Trine again on Sunday at 2 p.m. Eastern time, taking on the College of Mount St. Joseph.
