MOLINE, Ill. (May 1, 2011) -
An early Augustana College scoring run kept the North Central College baseball team from securing a sweep of its weekend series, as the Cardinals lost a 12-6 decision to the Vikings at Augustana's Swanson Stadium on Sunday.

North Central (19-9, 13-5 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) opened up a 2-0 lead in the first inning, as Dan Scott led off with a double and Matt Burke walked before both scored on a double by Michael Corrigan

Augustana, however, put together a six-run rally in the second inning to pull in front, then tacked on another run in the third. Burke ripped a two-run double and scored on an error in the fourth to narrow the gap to 7-5, but the Vikings (21-11, 9-8 CCIW) countered with four more runs in the home half of the inning to negate North Central's progress. The Cardinals' final run came on a single by Tom Ross in the eighth inning.

Ross went 3 for 4 to pace North Central's efforts at the plate, while Joe Turek went 2 for 3. Michael McGrath took the loss on the mound (2-2), allowing six earned runs in three innings.

The Cardinals travel to the University of Chicago for a double header at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
