NORMAL, Ill. (May 15, 2011) -
The North Central College baseball team's run in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament came to an end in the final on Sunday, as the Cardinals fell behind early and lost, 11-1, to Carthage College at Corn Crib Stadium.

The Red Men (29-10) jumped in front with four first-inning runs, as four straight batters reached safely after the second out. A two-run homer by first baseman Joey Aiello in the second inning extended Carthage's lead to 6-0, and solo homers by infielder Tyler Eickmeyer and outfielder Will Hodges in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, gave the Red Men a 8-0 advantage.

North Central (22-17) broke up the shutout in the seventh, as Brennan Hagensee hit a solo home run to center field. Carthage, however, kept itself clear of the Cardinals by tacking on three runs in the final two innings.

Matt Burke, Matt Abraham and Joe Turek each went 2 for 4 for the Cardinals, with Turek recording a leadoff triple in the fifth.

Carthage earns the CCIW's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, which begins on Wednesday.
