2011 All-CCIW Baseball Teams
May 23, 2011 - Six North Central College baseball players have been selected to the 2011 All-College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Teams, as selected by the CCIW's eight head coaches.
Outfielder Matt Abraham and infielder Joe Turek both received selections to the All-CCIW First Team, while outfielder Dan Scott, infielder Matt Burke, catcher Michael Corrigan and pitcher Nate Arenson were named to the All-CCIW Second Team.
Abraham finished the season with a .348 batting average, 11 doubles, 29 runs batted in and 27 runs scored. 21 of Abraham's RBI came in conference play, during which he hit .337. He finished his collegiate career as North Central's all-time leader for sacrifice flies in a season (8, recorded in 2010) and a career (11).
Turek batted .298 with a team-high eight home runs and 20 RBI while spending a majority of the season as the Cardinals' starting first baseman. He hit .319 with five home runs and posted a .991 fielding percentage in CCIW games. Turek was a First Team All-CCIW selection at designated hitter last season.
Scott, who also received Second Team All-CCIW honors in 2010, batted .284 with 14 stolen bases and led the Cardinals in runs scored (36), walks (29) and sacrifice hits (11) while posting a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000 for the second straight season. He hit .311 with 25 runs scored in conference play and is North Central's career record holder for sacrifice hits (22).
Burke started all 39 games at second base for the Cardinals this season, batting .304 with 35 runs scored, 22 RBI, seven sacrifice hits and a team-leading 20 stolen bases. He hit .316 and drove in 17 of his runs against CCIW opposition.
Corrigan, the CCIW's Player of the Year in 2010, receives All-CCIW honors for the third consecutive season, becoming the first Cardinal to do so since Dan Grimm '99. Corrigan batted .356 with six home runs and team-leading totals of 13 doubles, 33 RBI and four sacrifice flies while turning in a fielding percentage of .995 behind the plate. He had a team-high batting average of .361 and a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000 in conference games.
Arenson, an All-CCIW honoree for the second straight season, went 5-2 with a 3.93 earned-run average in 66 1/3 innings this season. He pitched complete games in four of his 10 starts. In conference play, Arenson was 3-1 with a 3.16 ERA and a .247 opponents' batting average in 37 innings.
The Cardinals finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 22-17, and finished fourth in the final CCIW standings with an in-conference record of 13-8. North Central qualified for the championship round of this year's CCIW Tournament.
