Jan. 7, 2012-- Ross Artley swam to three victories but it was not enough as the North Central College men's swimming team suffered a, 56-33, setback to Monmouth College (Ill.) on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference dual inside the Merner Field House Pool.
Artley began his prolific day by winning the 200-yard freestyle in a time of one minute, 54.19 seconds before claiming the 200-yard individual medley in 2:11.81. The junior closed out the meet by capturing the 100-yard backstroke in 58.77, winning by almost a four-second margin.
Neil Hummer tallied a trio of runner-up finishes while
Kevin O'Keefe recorded a pair of second place showings. Hummer began the day with a second place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:43.13) while also placing second in the 100-yard butterfly (57.72) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:27.59). O'Keefe finished runner-up in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events, clocking a 27.38 in the 50 and a time of 1:05.04 in the 100 free.
The Cardinals return to the pool on Friday, heading into the city for the two-day University of Chicago Invitational.
