Stayer Propels Cardinals Past Millikin in Overtime

Oct. 17, 2012 – After battling back from an early deficit, the North Central College women's soccer team fought Millikin University to a 2-1 overtime victory in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) matchup Wednesday night.
 
Despite trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Cardinals were able to connect on a pair of second-half goals including the game-winner by Hope Stayer just under three minutes into overtime.
 
Sarah Christy got the visitors on the board first with her team leading ninth goal of the season, scoring in the 24th minute off an assist from Jenny Zima, giving the Big Blue (5-8-3, 1-3-1 CCIW) a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.
 
In the second half, the Cardinals Colleen Gebauer found the back of the net in the 60th minute, knotting the score at 1-1 to force overtime.
 
Just under three minutes into the extra period, Stayer drove through the Big Blue defense and nailed the game winner giving the Cardinals a 2-1 victory.
 
The Cardinal (6-7-2, 2-2-1 CCIW) defense held Millikin to just four shots on the night while Jacqueline Clore recorded the win in goal for North Central stopping one shot.
 
North Central travels to Rock Island, Ill. on Oct. 20, taking on CCIW foe Augustana College at 1 p.m.
