Women's Soccer Downs Elmhurst for First Time in Program History

ELMHURST, Ill. (Oct. 3, 2012) – Entering the game with an overall record of 0-16 against College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin foe Elmhurst College, the North Central College women's soccer team put that streak to an end Wednesday night at Berens Park, surging to a 2-0 victory behind a pair of second half goals by Hope Stayer.
 
Neither squad was able to find the back of the twine in the opening period but the Bluejays (6-3-2, 0-1-1 CCIW) held a 7-2 shot advantage and a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.
 
In the 63rd minute, junior Hope Stayer broke open the scoreless tie chipping one over Elmhurst goalkeeper Maddie Fitzpatrick off an assist from Mackenzie Wenger to give the Cardinals (4-6-1, 1-1-0 CCIW) a 1-0 lead.
 
Stayer would add her team leading eighth goal of the season with just under two minutes left in the contest, sealing the 2-0 victory for the Cardinals.
 
Elmhurst outshot the Cardinals by a 14-7 margin but North Central goalkeeper Jacqueline Clore recorded five saves in the shutout effort.
 
North Central returns home on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. playing host to non-conference opponent Lawrence University.
