Cardinal Comeback Spoiled at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (Dec. 7, 2012)
– Despite spoiling a pair of double-digit deficits, the North Central College women's basketball team was outdone at the hands of non-conference opponent Lake Forest College, 88-83, Friday night.
 
Lauren Hernandez got the Cardinals on the board, draining a three-pointer for the opening basket of the contest, but the host Foresters would go on a 14-2 run, taking an early 14-5 advantage.
 
Down by nine with under two minutes left in the opening half, the Cardinals would score the last seven points of the first period after a pair of free-throws by Paula Elum and another three from Hernandez, narrowing the Lake Forest lead 38-36.
 
Michelle Todd hit a jumper to open the second half, knotting the score at 38-38, but the Foresters responded with a 10-0 run to take a double-digit lead with under 16:00 remaining in the contest.
 
The Cardinals (4-3) gradually chipped away at the lead, tying the score yet again 52-52 after a Kimberly Wilson three-pointer and a jumper by Kelsey Cooling with 13 minutes left to play.
 
The Foresters (3-4) slowly crept away in the remaining minutes, leading by as many as ten points down the stretch, holding on for the five point victory.
 
Hernandez led the Cardinals with 14 points, on 4 of 8 shooting from beyond the arch.  Larynn Shumaker chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
 
Six Foresters scored in double-figures, led by Danielle Canulli's 14 points.
 
North Central returns home on Wednesday, Dec. 12, taking on Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7:30 p.m.
