Feb. 25, 2012-- North Central College and Illinois Wesleyan University battled to the tightest finish in the 12-year history of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the Al B. Carius Track, as the Cardinals concluded the two-day meet in second place, two points shy of the top spot on the podium.

The Cardinals and 11th-ranked Titans were deadlocked at 153 points with 16 of the 17 events completed before IWU raced to the victory in the 4x400-meter relay to secure the Championship, finishing with 163 points to North Central's 161. Carthage College was a distant third with 105.5 points followed by Millikin University (96.5 points) and Wheaton College (72 points). Augustana College was sixth (54 points) with Elmhurst College (7 points) and North Park University (3 points) rounding out the team standings.

North Central led after day one of competition as freshmen Elizabeth Composto and Brooke Patterson finished 1-2 in the pole vault, securing the Cardinals' ninth straight victory in the vault.Composto soared over a freshman school record height of 12 feet 4 1/2 inches to tally the win while Patterson captured second after clearing 11' 6 1/2".

Jocelyn Redlinski opened the Championships on Friday with a third place effort in the pentathlon, tallying 2,976 points before finishing third in the long jump with a leap of 16 10 3/4". The sophomore closed the meet on Saturday with a victory in the 60-meter hurdles, sprinting across the line in 9.31 seconds.

Krista Cota shaved over eight seconds off her previous personal best in the mile, winning the race in a CCIW-record time of 4:56.86 before placing third in the 800-meter run in 2:16.67. The junior closed a busy Saturday by helping the 4x400-meter relay team to a second place showing in 3:58.57.

Basheeba Mays tallied the Cardinals' fourth event victory of the championships, leaping 37' 1 3/4" to win the triple jump with teammate Bri Tolliver placing third (36' 6 1/4").

North Central recorded second place finishes from Kala Bingham in the 800-meter run (2:16.10) and Ebony Stallworth in the shot put (42' 4 3/4") while Monique Lincoln secured a third place showing in the high jump, clearing 5' 2 1/2".

The Cardinals close out their four-meet homestand on Thursday and Friday, hosting the NCC Last Chance Qualifier at the Al B. Carius Track.
