LOS ANGELES (Mar. 21, 2012) - Up against the most accomplished of its three Spring Break opponents, the North Central College women's lacrosse team found itself facing a large early disadvantage at Occidental College on Tuesday night and rallied to narrow the gap before falling to the Tigers, 20-12, at Jack Kemp Stadium.
The Cardinals (1-4) trailed by two goals just one minute into the contest as Occidental (8-1) opened with a flourish. After Jacqui Morgan got North Central on the board with 25:33 left in the first half, the Tigers scored three unanswered goals to start a 7-1 run that spanned 15 minutes and gave the hosts a commanding 9-2 lead. Amy Frazzini scored twice in the final five minutes in an attempt to gain some ground, but Occidental still held a 13-5 advantage heading into halftime.
Rachael Houp opened the second-half scoring for the Cardinals, but Occidental kept North Central off the scoreboard for the next 20 minutes and scored six straight times to expand the Tigers' lead to its largest at 19-6. North Central responded with a 6-0 rally of its own but was never able to get back into contention.
Frazzini led the Cardinals' scoring with three goals, giving her 98 in her collegiate career, while Morgan, Houp, Caroline Gully and Danielle Fiala each scored twice.
North Central returns to action on Thursday, Mar. 29, when it hosts Oberiln College (Ohio) at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Play is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
