The North Central College baseball team opened up its 2012 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin schedule with a pair of victories against Carthage College inside Zimmerman Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

North Central battled back in the bottom half of the third inning as Peter Romanello and Luke Waldier each singled to lead off the inning.  After a sacrifice bunt by Alex Khoury, Sam Carius laced a two-run double down the left field line to put the Cardinals (11-4, 2-0) on top, 2-1.

Carthage answered in the bottom of the fifth, scoring an unearned run to even the score at, 2-2.  The Cardinals answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning as Khoury started the two out rally with a double to left.  After a Carius walk, Joe Paparone shot an RBI base hit through the left side scoring Khoury, giving the Cardinals the decisive, 3-2, lead.

Singh improves to 3-0 on the season as he scattered nine hits over eight innings of work, giving up two unearned runs while striking out three.  Tyler Herman pitched a scoreless ninth, tallying his second save of the season.
