April 11, 2012—The North Central College baseball team was unable to complete the season sweep of College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin foe Augustana College on Wednesday afternoon, falling by a 5-3 margin inside Zimmerman Stadium.

After three scoreless innings to begin the game, the Vikings (16-8, 4-5 CCIW) broke the scoreless tie piling on four runs on five hits in the top of the fourth inning.  Mike Stewart and Joe Cecchi each plated two runs on RBI singles, giving Augustana the 4-0 lead.

The Cardinals (15-7, 6-3 CCIW) bounced back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the fourth on Joe Turek's team leading, third homerun of the season.  North Central would cut the Viking deficit in half the following inning as Joe Paparone scored on a Sam Carius sacrifice fly.

Augustana would score an insurance run in the eighth and hold off a ninth inning rally by North Central to take the victory 5-3.

Paparone and Steve Hlavac paced the way for the Cardinals offensively, each going 2 for 4 from the plate.

North Central plays host to Elmhurst College in a CCIW double header on Saturday, April 14 with first pitch slated for 12 pm.
