April 14, 2012—The North Central College baseball team fell in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) double header against Elmhurst College on Saturday afternoon inside Zimmerman Stadium.

Wasting no time in jumping on the board, the Cardinals (15-9, 6-5 CCIW) took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning as Joe Turek hit a towering 2-run homerun over the left field fence, his team leading fourth of the season.

Elmhurst was able to battle back and tie the score at 2-2 after an RBI double by Tim Nolan in the top of the second and an RBI infield single by Tyler Wargo in the top half on the fourth inning.

The score would remained tied until the eighth inning when the Bluejays (14-10, 6-5 CCIW) plated the game winning run on Zach Tsiodras' sacrifice fly.

Kris Singh suffers his second loss of the season, giving up three earned runs over seven innings while striking out four.

In game two, Elmhurst broke a scoreless tie in the top half of the fourth plating two runs on two hits in the inning to take a 2-0 lead.

The Bluejays would increase their lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning as Zach Hofer lined an RBI triple to center field and would score later in the inning on a Cardinal error.

After surrendering just two hits over the first seven innings, Elmhurst starting pitcher Jordan Hanlon got into trouble as the Cardinals would get on the board, snapping a 15 inning scoreless streak going back to the first inning of game one.  Kevin Hennessy plated the first Cardinal run on a RBI groundout to second base.  Later in the inning, Steve Hlavac scored on a wild pitch and Nick Daniels roped an RBI single up the middle to cut the Elmhurst lead to 5-3.  The Cardinals had runners on second and third with two outs but were unable to plate the tying runs, as the Bluejays would hold on for the 5-3 victory.

Ben Krusen is credited with his first loss of the season, giving up three earned runs over five innings while striking out one batter and walking four.  Luke Waldier led all Cardinal batters in game two going 2 for 4 from the plate.

The Cardinals look to bounce back tomorrow Sunday, April 15 as they travel to Elmhurst, Ill. for the final game of the season series.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
