April 18, 2012—The North Central College baseball team found themselves on the wrong side of a high scoring affair Wednesday afternoon inside Zimmerman Stadium, falling to non-conference opponent University of Chicago, 7-12.
The two teams wasted no time in jumping on the board in the first inning as Chicago's Ricky Troncelliti hit a two-run homerun to left field and North Central's
Peter Romanello countered in the bottom half, pulling a two-run homerun just inside the left field foul pole, tying the contest at 2-2.
The Cardinals (15-11) took a 3-2 lead the following inning, plating an unearned run due to a Chicago error.
The Maroons (16-9) managed to tie the game at 3-3 when Stephen Williams line an RBI double down the left field line in the top of the fifth inning.
Chicago would break open the tie the next inning plating five runs on 3 hits including a J.R. Lopez grand slam. The Maroons were not done at the plate, scoring four more, runs on three Cardinal errors, in the top of the seventh to take a decisive 12-4 advantage.
Sam Carius and Nick Hammerl led all Cardinal hitters with two hits apiece.
North Central travels to Decatur, Ill. on Saturday, April 21 for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin double header against Millikin University, first pitch scheduled for 1 pm.
