April 24, 2012—The North Central College baseball team made quick work of non-conference opponent Dominican University, 11-0, Tuesday afternoon inside Zimmerman Stadium.
The Cardinals (19-11) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as
Ben Krusen knocked in the first run of the game with an RBI triple to right center field. Next batter
Joe Turek doubled home Krusen while
Zac Pacanowski followed with an RBI single to left.
In the bottom of the second inning, North Central would add to its lead taking advantage of two Star (16-18) errors as
Sam Carius and
Steve Hlavac each contributed RBI singles, giving the Cardinals a 5-0 advantage.
The North Central offense continued to pour on the runs in the bottom of the fourth piling on four more runs to take a 9-0 lead. With the bases loaded Krusen was hit by a pitch while Turek and Pacanowski each followed with RBI walks.
The Cardinal offense would add a run in the fifth on a Hlavac RBI single, and another run in the sixth on a Carius sacrifice fly to left field to put the lead out of reach 11-0.
Four Cardinal batters compiled multiple hits while five different players had multiple RBI in the contest.
Aaron Kovac notches his first victory of the season scattering just two hits over 7 innings of work while striking out eight.
North Central travels to Evanton, Ill. on Wednesday, April 24 to take on NCAA Division I opponent Northwestern University at 3 pm.
