CHICAGO, Ill. (May 1, 2012)—
The North Central College baseball team snapped a three game skid on Tuesday afternoon in a rain shortened eight inning contest at Stagg Field, defeating non-conference opponent the University of Chicago, 7-2.

After a 2-RBI double by Stephen Williams in the bottom of the first inning put Chicago ahead 2-0, North Central starting pitcher Sam Klein would hold the Maroons (22-12) scoreless over the next six innings, giving up just three hits in that span.

In the top of the fourth the Cardinals (20-14) evened the score at 2-2 when Joe Turek lined an RBI single down the left field line, followed by an RBI double by Peter Romanello.

The Cardinals would take a 5-2 advantage in the top of the seventh as Steve Hlavac roped an RBI double to right field.  Two batters later, Turek connected on a 2-RBI double to left field, the 42nd of his career, ranking him first all-time in program history.

North Central would add a pair of insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning as Sam Carius plated a pair of runners with a 2-RBI single up the middle, increasing the Cardinals lead to 7-2.

Turek paced all batters going 2 for 4 with three RBI while teammates Ben Krusen, Peter Romanello, and Alex Khoury each added two hits apiece.

North Central plays host non-conference opponent Benedictine University on Wednesday, May 2 at Zimmerman Stadium at 3 pm.
