2012 All-MWLC Teams
May 7, 2012 - The North Central College women's lacrosse team was rewarded for its success within the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) on Monday, as the Cardinals had four players selected to the MWLC's All-Conference Teams for 2012.
North Central had three selections to the All-MWLC First Team in senior defender
Shannon Prince, senior midfielder
Caroline Gully and junior attacker
Danielle Fiala, while senior defender
Alison Musur was selected to the Second Team. Prince was also voted the MWLC's Defensive Player of the Year, the first such honor in the history of the Cardinals' program.
Prince has started each of North Central's 56 games since the program's inception in 2009 and was a Second Team All-MWLC selection in 2011. This season, she led the Cardinals with 35 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers, narrowly missing a single-game school record with five caused turnovers on April 1 against the University of Puget Sound. She finishes her collegiate career ranked second in school history in caused turnovers (51) and fourth in ground balls (104).
Gully started all 16 games this season and ranked second on the team in goals (31), ground balls (34) and draw controls (64) while sharing the team lead in assists (8). She scored at least once in 15 of 16 contests and concludes her career as North Central's all-time leader in ground balls (137) and draw controls (136) while ranking third in goals scored (89).
Fiala, North Central's leading scorer the past two seasons, was a Second Team All-MWLC pick last year. This season, she established single-season school records for goals (51) and draw controls (64), ranking second in the MWLC in goals per game and third in draw controls per game. She became the first player in school history to score 100 career goals in the Cardinals' game at Fontbonne University on April 21 and finished the season with 109 career goals to her credit.
Musur started all 16 games as well, ranking third on the team in draw controls (15) and contributing nine goals and five assists. She finsihes her career ranked fifth in the Cardinals' history in draw controls (42) and caused turnovers (28).
North Central finished the season with a 7-10 overall record and a 5-2 finish in the MWLC, placing third in the conference standings and qualifying for the MWLC Tournament for the second consecutive year.
