WHEATON, Ill. (Jan 19. 2013) –
Claiming its first dual victories of the season, the North Central College wrestling team went 2-1 on Saturday at the Wheaton College Quad.
 
The Cardinals (2-8) opened the afternoon with a decisive 30-9 victory over Manchester University before taking down College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) foe Wheaton College, 23-19.  North Central succumbed in the final match of the day to Concordia University Wisconsin, 30-14.
 
Opening the afternoon against Manchester, Nick Santos got the Cardinals on the board, sneaking out a 6-5 decision over Taylor Hart.  At 141 pounds, Nathan Fitzenreider scored a technical fall over Josh Juarez while Dylan Mahler recorded a pin over Jimmie King at 285 pounds in a time of 2:10. 
 
The Cardinals also received victories from Blake Olson (157 pounds), Jason Bonham (165 pounds), Kevin Evenson (184 pounds) and Casey Greenberg (197 pounds).
 
Against Wheaton, the Cardinals scored wins in the opening four matches as Santos defeated Tom Foy by major decision, 12-1, before Jon Williamson won by medical forfeit.  Fitzenreider continued his dominance at 141, pinning David Watson in 0:36 while Luke Keefe downed Gage Burt by decision, 4-2, at 149.  Jason Bonham was also victorious at 165 pounds defeating Luke Sims by major decision, 19-6.
 
The Cardinals were unable to complete the clean sweep as Concordia Wisconsin proved to be too much taking six of the ten matches.  Fitzenreider improved to 3-0 on the day with a 17-0 technical fall over Allen Fenner.  Williamson (133 pounds), Olson (157 pounds) and Mahler (285 pounds) were also victorious for the Cardinals.
 
North Central travels to No. 13 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday, Jan. 26 for a non-conference dual beginning at 1 p.m.
