Strong Second Half Propels Cardinals Past Millikin

It was a tale of two halves Wednesday night inside Gregory Arena as the North Central College women's basketball team bounced back from an eight-point halftime deficit, outscoring Millikin University by a 32-point margin in the second half en route to a 92-68 victory.
 
In the first half, North Central shot just 27 percent from the floor including 3 of 16 from beyond the arch, leading to a 35-27 Millikin lead at the intermission.
 
The Cardinals (10-8, 3-4 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) chipped away at the Big Blue lead early in the second half, eventually taking the lead at the 12:13 mark after a Larynn Shumaker lay-up gave the hosts a 50-49 advantage.
 
Leading 61-58 with 8:45 left to play, North Central went on a 31-10 run to close out the contest fueled by a pair of three-pointers by Lauren Hernandez, while the Cardinals defense forced 11 of its 47 turnovers during that span.
 
Emily Murphy was the leading scorer for the Cardinals finishing with 14 points on 7 of 8 shooting.  Hernandez and Kelsey Cooling also finished in double-figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.  Paula Elum grabbed a team high ten rebounds off the bench.
 
The Big Blue (5-12, 0-7 CCIW) were paced by Bria Williams 16 points while Moli Copple ended the night with 10 points.
 
North Central makes the short trip to Wheaton College on Saturday, Jan. 26 with tipoff slated for 5 p.m.
