KENOSHA, Wis. (Jan. 30, 2013) – For the second time this season the North Central College women's basketball team was downed at the hands of Carthage College, 105-80 as the Lady Reds remained unbeaten in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play inside Tarble Arena.
In a first half featuring seven lead changes and seven ties, North Central took its largest lead of the first half after a
Sophie Newson three-pointer gave the Cardinals a 23-20 lead just over 10:00 into the opening half.
It was a one-point game with just over six minutes to play in the first half before the Lady Reds closed out the period on a 13-4 run, taking a 42-33 lead into the intermission.
The Cardinals (10-10, 3-6 CCIW) opened the second half with a 14-3 run capped off by a pair of free throws from
Kimberly Wilson, giving the visitors a 47-46 advantage.
The Lady Reds (17-3, 9-0 CCIW) were not to be denied going on the game's pivotal run, a 7-0 spurt to increase its lead back to nine with ten minutes left in regulation.
Carthage opened up a double-digit advantage after an Erin Quinn jumper at the 3:45 mark and would lead by double figures the remainder of the contest.
North Central was led by Newson's 12 points and five rebounds while
Callie Rezin added 11 points.
Larynn Shumaker and
Emily Murphy finished with ten points apiece.
Stephanie Kuzmanic paced the Lady Reds with 25 points while Cailee Corcoran ended the night with a double-double, 22 points and 12 rebounds.
The Cardinals return home on Saturday, Feb. 2, playing host to Elmhurst College at 5 p.m.
