SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Oct. 16, 2013)– The North Central College women's soccer team traveled to take on the University of Illinois Springfield Prairiestars.  The team fell, 3-2, but senior midfielder Hope Stayer added something else for the program as she tied the women's all-time scoring record with 38 goals.

Stayer is tied with, Christie Guido, from the 1998-2001 seasons with the women's soccer program.  With one more goal, Stayer can claim the new career record in goals.

The Cardinals' (2-9-1, 1-3) acted first with Stayer shooting in a goal, 19:49, into the match.  However, the Prairiestars (2-11) responded back with a goal of their own 10 minutes later.

In the second half, North Central was pressured more by Illinois Springfield when they tacked on two additional goals, but the Cardinals didn't give up then. With less than eight minutes remaining in the game, Stayer put one more shot past Prairiestars goalkeeper Robin Damron, assisted by Victoria Dunn, but came up just short of tying the match.

Collleen Gebauer and Rachael Houp also added multiple shots for North Central.

The Cardinals return home on Saturday for a conference matchup against Augustana College.  Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
