Women's Soccer Gets Tough 2-1 Loss

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 2, 2013)­– The North Central College women's soccer team had a tough conference loss, 2-1, in overtime against the Elmhurst College Bluejays on Wednesday.

The Cardinals' (2-6-1) put out a strong first half, maintaining possession of the ball almost the entire time and not allowing the Bluejays (7-2-0) to have a single shot.  Finally it was midfielder, Hope Stayer, who put a shot past Elmhurst's goalkeeper Emily Gordon, 21:03, into the match and scored for the Cardinals.  She was assisted by midfielder Victoria Dunn.

Entering the second half, Elmhurst started to respond with gaining momentum of the ball more often with the North Central defense staying on them.

However, Elmhurst's Kristie Waugh, responded for the team scoring 84:15 into the game, tying it for the Bluejays.

Following the goal by the Bluejays, both teams fought back and forth until the clock ran out and it was sent into overtime.

The Cardinals started with heavy momentum, but five minutes into overtime, Elmhurst's Waugh, was able to sneak it past goalkeeper Nicki Seiton, scoring for Elmhurst and winning the game.

North Central ended the rough loss with nine overall shots and is now 1-1 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play.
 
The Cardinals are away on Friday to take on conference foe Wheaton College at 4: 30 p.m.
