MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Dec. 17, 2013) – A balanced scoring attack led the North Central College women's basketball team past Milwaukee School of Engineering, 112-104 Tuesday night at the Kern Center.
Sofia Svensson drained a three-pointer to open the game's scoring, and the Cardinals maintained the lead the remainder of the contest.
North Central (5-3) opened up a double-digit lead at the 14:37 mark as
Emily Zgoda connected on a three-point play, giving the Cardinals an 18-8 advantage.
Over the next three minutes the Cardinals would go on a 10-1 run, capped off by a
Uzuri Williams layup, taking a 28-9 lead just over halfway through the opening half.
The Cardinals would lead by as many as 26 points in the first half while taking a 60-41 lead into the intermission, led by
Larynn Shumaker's 8 points on 4 of 4 shooting from the field.
The second half was much of the same for the Raiders (5-4), as the Cardinals would lead by double-figures the entire way until MSOE trimmed the final margin to eight points with a three-pointer just before time expired.
Six Cardinal players finished in double-figures, paced by
Anita Sterling's career-high 16 points on 3 of 6 shooting from long range. Williams and
Lauren Hernandez each added 14, while
DeJa Moore and
Bobbi Johns each had 11 and Shumaker finished with 10 points on the evening.
Holly Denfield led all scorers with a 27 point, 11 rebound double-double, while Corrine Sanford added 21 points for the Raiders.
North Central is back on the hardwood Thursday, Dec. 19, travelling to Dominican University at 6 pm.
