Cardinals Crush Dominican, Set New Program Scoring Record

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (Dec. 19, 2013) –
The North Central College women's basketball team cruised past Dominican University, 124-64 Thursday night inside the Igini Sports Forum, setting a new program scoring record in the process while eight Cardinals finished in double-figure scoring on the evening.
 
The Cardinals (6-3) eclipsed the previous school record set earlier this season in a 123-99 victory over Lake Forest College, Nov. 20.
 
The Stars (0-11) led through the opening five minutes but with the score knotted 14-14 at the 13:49 mark of the opening half, the Cardinals went on a 15-3 run capped off by a Marion Boeck lay-up to give North Central a 29-17 lead.
 
The Cardinal offense continued to light up the nets in the first half, opening up a 19-point lead at the intermission.  Uzuri Williams and Kelsey Cooling led the Cardinal scoring attach with 10 points apiece in the opening period.
 
The offensive onslaught continued in the second half as the Cardinals outscored Dominican, 71-30 while shooting 50 percent from the floor on 21 of 42 shooting, while sinking 20-25 free throws en route to the 60-point victory.
 
North Central forced 39 turnovers and won the rebound battle 62-49, including 23 offensive rebounds on the evening.
 
Larynn Shumaker led all scorers with 18 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the floor, while Cooling and Williams finished with 17 and 14 points, respectively.  Emily Zgoda and Erica Buck each finished with career-high 11 points each, and Kimblerly Wilson, Paula Zerante and Boeck each added 10.
 
Haley Tyler led the Stars with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
 
North Central is back in action Saturday, December 28, hosting Saint Mary's University (Minn.) at 2 pm at Gregory Arena.
