Feb. 13, 2013 – Despite jumping out to an early 18-0 lead, the North Central College wrestling squad was unable to hang on down the stretch, falling to Wheaton College in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) dual match inside Gregory Arena Wednesday night.
North Central claimed the opening four matches of the night as
Nick Santos jumpstarted the Cardinals at 125 pounds, breezing past Tom Foy by major decision, 13-5, before
Nathan Fitzenreider won by forfeit at 133 pounds.
North Central kept the momentum rolling as
Jon Williamson made quick work of David Watson at 141 pounds, winning by technical fall, 16-0, while
Nathan Segal followed with a tight 3-2 decision over Dan Mitchell at 149 to put the Cardinals ahead 18-0.
That was all the scoring the Cardinals would generate as Wheaton responded to the deficit by winning the final six matches of the evening, including a pair of pins and three major decision victories.
North Central is back on the mat on Thursday, Feb. 21, travelling to Wheaton College for the CCIW Championships beginning at 5 p.m.
