TACOMA, Wash. (Mar. 16, 2013) - The North Central College women's lacrosse team let a close game slip away in its 2013 season opener on Friday, as the University of Puget Sound Loggers emerged with a 9-1 second-half surge and defeated the Cardinals, 18-10, at Baker Field.

North Central needed almost no time getting on the board once the game began, as Danielle Fiala controlled the opening draw and put it in the back of the Loggers' net just 10 seconds into the contest. Fiala's goal is the fastest at the start of a period in the Cardinals' history, bettering her own 13-second goal against Linfield College in 2011.

After yielding two UPS goals, the Cardinals moved back in front as Fiala scored off an assist from Jacqui Morgan and Claire Norfleet tallied her first collegiate goal with 22:58 on the first-half clock. The Loggers' Grace Reid followed with two goals in a 90-second span, and though North Central tied the score three more times before the half, it was unable to regain the lead as the hosts took an 8-7 advantage into the break.

The Loggers (2-1) scored 29 seconds into the second half and continued to extend their lead while allowing only one goal, an unassisted score by Rachael Houp, until under a minute remained.

Fiala and Norfleet shared the team lead in scoring with three goals each, while Norfleet also added a team-high six draw controls and Gina Fisher led the Cardinals with six ground balls.

UPS' Caroline Cook and Julia Schulman eachs cored five goals, and Jessica McDonald added six draw controls for the Loggers.

North Central plays at Pacific University (Ore.) on Sunday at 1 p.m. Pacific time.
